All services are performed by licensed practitioners that are certified and/or have extensive experience in the services they provide. Our practitioners are compassionate human-beings there to serve.

Nowadays, practitioners have many initials after their name. This is very confusing to the consumer. Patient education is the cornerstone of our practice. Therefore, we want to begin by

fully explaining each title so that you completely understand our credentials.

Practitioner: Mary J. Houge, Dipl. OM, L.Ac., MSOM, ND, LMBT

“Dipl. OM” denotes “Diplomate of Oriental Medicine.” A Diplomate of Oriental Medicine is Nationally Certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology from NCCAOM, the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. NCCAOM is the only national organization that validates competency in the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM) through professional certification. All NCCAOM certification programs are currently accredited by the National Commission for Certification Agencies (NCCA).

“L.Ac.” denotes “Licensed Acupuncturist.” A licensed acupuncturist has met all the qualifications of the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board. The purpose of the NCALB is to promote the health, safety and welfare of the North Carolina public through the licensure and regulation of acupuncturists. The Board reviews all applications and ensures the credentials of all licensed acupuncturists meet a high standard and that only qualified individuals are permitted to practice in North Carolina.

“MSOM” denotes “Master of Science, Oriental Medicine.” A Masters of Oriental Medicine is a four year masters degree program that prepares the student to use Traditional Chinese Medical Diagnosis and treatment which includes Acupuncture, Cupping, Moxibustion, TuiNa, Oriental nutritional counseling and herbal medicine in their practice. Oriental Medical students complete over 1000 hours of student clinical internship. At successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the national certification exam in Acupuncture.

“ND” denotes “Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.” Naturopathic Doctorate is a doctorate in the study of Naturopathic medicine which employs complementary and alternative medical therapies within the context of mainstream medicine, which help improve the body’s intrinsic ability to heal and maintain itself. Practitioners of naturopathic medicine prefer to use natural remedies such as botanical tinctures/medicinal herbs and foods rather than synthetic drugs. Naturopathic medical practice includes many different modalities. Practitioners emphasize a holistic approach to patient care.

“LMBT” denotes “Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist.” A licensed massage and bodywork therapist has met all the qualifications of the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy. The mission and purpose of the Board is to regulate the practice of massage and bodywork therapy in the State of North Carolina to ensure standards of competency and to protect the public health, safety and welfare.

Quality Products

Certified Nutraceutical Companies

We extensively research all products and manufacturers that we carry. Nutraceuticals are a food or food product that provides health and medical benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease. We use medical foods and protocols that are by the only triple GMP-Certified company in the US, Metagenics. All our nutraceuticals are of superior quality and purity and are highly bioavailable.

We use only products that work. If the product is not certified (guaranteed quality and quantity of ingredients) and there is not proven research that it works, we do not use it in our protocols. There are many inferior products non-regulated on the internet. We do not advise putting something into your body that you are not sure of its ingredients. We do not advise using your hard earned money on inexpensive products that are a waste of money or worse harmful.

Certified Organics

We use certified organic products in our facials that are highly rated by ewg.org.

Certified organic is important because detoxing toxins from your body that are contributing to your condition is an important part of our program. But equally important is the necessity to reduce the amount of toxins getting into your body. Using certified organic products is critical. Many of the chemical toxins in topical products found in skin care products, make-up and shampoos are endocrine disruptors and may even be carcinogenic. Finding high quality certified organic products that are effective is difficult.
